How Noted's AI works

We don't build our own AI models. Noted uses open models from Meta, run through Cloudflare Workers AI, and our work is in how they're combined with your data and with plain code.

Where AI is used

TaskHow it worksModel
Understanding an entryThe AI model extracts the details as structured data. Code then checks the amount, date and account, and simple rules save the entry if the AI is unavailable.Llama 3.3 70B
Answering questionsCode calculates your totals, then the model turns those facts into a short answer.Llama 3.3 70B, with Llama 3.1 8B as backup
Monthly insightCode calculates this month and last month. The model writes two observations and one suggestion from those numbers.Llama 3.3 70B, with Llama 3.1 8B as backup

Code does the math. The model does the wording.

Language models aren't reliable at arithmetic, so Noted doesn't ask them to add up your spending. Totals come from a calculation over your entries, and the model is told to use only those numbers.

That reduces errors but doesn't remove them. A model can still misread a question or an entry, or make a mistake when it compares two figures, which is why every entry can be edited and every answer should be checked before you rely on it.

You: Where did most of my money go this month?

Noted AI: Rent was your largest expense at $1,450, followed by groceries at $312. You've spent $41 less on dining than at this point last month.

What the AI receives

Your email and password are never sent to the AI. Here's what is sent to the model for each task.

TaskData sent to the model
Understanding an entryThe words you logged, and your category and account names. This happens for every spoken or typed entry.
Questions and insightsYour first name, totals by period, category and store, account balances, budgets, names of people in loans, and your most recent entries. The question you asked, for questions.

Cloudflare's Workers AI data policy says customer content isn't used to train models. Details on how long data is kept are in that policy and in our Privacy Policy.

How the system is built

Noted runs on Cloudflare today. The only part outside it is Apple's speech recognition, which happens before anything reaches us: we receive text, never audio.
